(21)Forget-Me-Not [Myosotis arvensis]. Normally an annual, 6-25cm in height with broad leaves and softly hairy. Common in dry bare or disturbed ground, edge of woods and hedgerows. Very pale blue flowers sometimes pinkish, occur from April to September. |
(22)Elder [Sambucus nigra]. A deciduous shrub or small tree up to 7m, having a corky bark with white pith found in woods and hedgerows. Flat-topped creamy white flower clusters occur in May and June giving rise to juicy black berries from August to November much loved by blackbirds and 'wine-makers'. |
(23)Hogweed [Heracleum sphondylium]. A white flowered biennial, sometimes referred to as Cow Parsnip; being a large umbellifer with hollow stems up to 1.75m in height. It is found in grassy places, on roadsides, hedge sides, woods and wasteland often with a little shade. It flowers from June to August. |
(24)Ramsons [Allium ursinum]. Occurs in moist woodlands or in damp places on the edge of woodlands. Our only broad-leaved garlic, the leaves a little like Lily of the Valley but when rubbed having the rather characteristic and recognisable odour of onions, often referred to locally as 'Wild Garlic'. The white flowers in April to June are in broad umbels on stalks up to 30cm in height./P> |
