Of Interest To...
both visitors to the region and
communities within the region
|
|
Created for the purpose of providing visitors with an insight into the surrounding area, its natural history and wealth of interesting features. The site uses 'galleries' of photographs with attached notes collected into particular subjects of interest. The photos have been taken as and when both the opportunity and the inclination have arisen on my travels around the region.
Further facilities within the site invite local communities to participate 'online for free' with items of news, classified ads and to promote their businesses/organisations.
The site is designed for a minimum screen resolution of 800 x 600 and requires that Java is enabled in your browser.

natural history diary for 2004 :
- Jan 16th.
Encountered a limping vixen in poor health, devoid of any fur over her hindquarters, exhibiting little fear and apparently slowly dying from sarcoptic mange. It seems to have been a bad winter for mange as this is the third fox spotted with the ailment in the last 2 months.

news and notes :
- For a variety of reasons, the site has not developed as quickly as I would have liked, so I must take this opportunity to apologise to our many regular visitors. I still have many photographs to process for the site, in particular natural history and places of interest. Many of these were taken in the company of my last GSD, who sadly died after a short illness in December 2002, 6 years of age. He is very much missed and his desire for walks in the surrounding countryside led to the creation of this site. However, I now have a 1 year old female GSD to accompany me out and about with my cameras. So now, I can continue a project that had been so eagerly started many months ago.
- Do send your suggestions, views, ideas, comments and corrections, all of which will be gratefully received. The site can be readily changed to incorporate any ideas.
- AOL Alert: Several visitors connecting via AOL have complained of poor image quality when using the AOL web browser. This is caused by a setting called "compress images" in the browser that causes it to completely mangle images in the interest of faster transmission. It is advisable to turn this setting OFF before viewing any of the images on this site.
Open the "AOL" Preferences screen in the toolbar across the top. Then click on the "WWW" icon and select the "Web Graphics" tab where the "compressed graphics" choice should be unchecked and then click on the "Apply" button at the bottom. The pictures will take much longer to load now, but the image quality should be much better and worth waiting for.
For an in depth account of AOL's compression feature Click Here.
Thank you.
