Orange-tip Butterfly - notes.
.....The hind wings, in both sexes are dappled with grey blotches with a hint of green. The fore wings of both have blackish tips, the area being larger in the female and there is a black central spot which is also larger in the female. Its flight is feeble, being rather fluttery. It rests with wings closed, but feeds from flowers with raised wings slightly open. It is frequently seen along hedgerow lanes or damp flowery meadows. The eggs are laid on the flowerheads of a variety of plants including hedge mustard, cuckoo flower and charlock. In the garden, sweet rocket and honesty are popular hosts to the caterpillars, which feed on the seed pods. The caterpillars are well disguised and are bluish-green along the back, shading to white. Usually only a single brood occurs in a season.
